This study addressed the entertainment spending habits of two different populations, Kalamazoo College students and citizens of Kalamazoo. The four main areas of spending, as addressed by the U.S. Census Bureau 1, were incorporated. Results of this study will be useful to local Kalamazoo businesses such as movie rental stores, restaurants, and cable providers. This study was conducted as part of the Quantitative Methods II course at Kalamazoo College and is loosely based on other previous studies 2. This study focused on how socioeconomic variables such as income, family size, gender, education, and age affect entertainment purchases. Answers were sought to see what types of entertainment spending were the most popular and how much was spent on these forms of entertainment from week to week between Kalamazoo College students and citizens of Kalamazoo. Comparisons of entertainment spending to gender, age, household income, household size, and type of entertainment can also be drawn from our findings. |
